KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 (Bernama) — United States (US) President Donald Trump has expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for successfully brokering the signing of the Cambodia-Thailand peace deal today.

Describing Anwar as a great and historic figure for his role in the landmark peace deal, Trump said he felt obliged to visit Malaysia for the 47th ASEAN Summit after Anwar managed to solve the dispute between the two nations in July this year.

“The two leaders (Thailand and Cambodia) have great respect for each other, but the Prime Minister (Anwar) played a very important role in helping convene the two sides for discussions here in Kuala Lumpur, “ he said.

Trump said this before witnessing the signing of the peace agreement – Delivering Peace: Cambodia-Thailand Peace Deal – here today.

Also present were Anwar, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.
