KUCHING, Jan 21 2017 (Bernama) - Sarawak's new Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg has expressed confidence that Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will give appropriate attention to matters concerning the state.
He said this was because Najib was a prime minister who was "prepared to listen and is responsive".
Abang Johari said that during his meeting with Najib in Putrajaya yesterday, he had stated Sarawak's support for the leadership of Najib, whom he described as a prime Minister 'who had helped us in Sarawak a lot'.
"I am newly appointed to the post of chief minister, so I paid him a courtesy call yesterday as a mark of respect, and I stated that I will continue what had been carried out by 'Tok Nan' (his predecessor the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem)," he said.
Abang Johari was speaking at a media conference after chairing a meeting of the supreme council of his party, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), at PBB's headquarters in Jalan Bako, Petra Jaya here today.
Abang Johari took his oath of office as Chief Minister of Sarawak on Jan 13, after Adenan died of heart complicationS at the Sarawak Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan on Jan 11.
