PUTRAJAYA, July 6 (Bernama) - Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today it is inhumane for some countries to close their borders to refugees.
Referring to the issue of Syrian refugees, he said Malaysia would always be hospitable to refugees coming to the country.
"Despite their number being very big, we have accepted them for humanitarian reasons. We think the European countries must exercise the belief that they have to be sympathetic towards refugees and allow them to come in.
"I understand there are some countries closing their borders completely to refugees. That is not humane," he told reporters after chairing a meeting of the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council here.
On the bombing in Syria, Dr Mahathir said that as a small country Malaysia could only express that it was a wrong action.
"... there are even more powerful countries in a position to stop the bombing but they don't want to. So, what do we do? As we are a small country, we express our opinion," he said.
