Definition of PERMATA Insan
An Abqari individual that is highly skilled in understanding, interpreting, memorizing and applying the Al-Quran and As-Sunnah in his life. He/she is also able to nuture the Islamic knowledge-seeking tradition, thus awaken the development of knowledge and technology.
Background of Establishment
Permata Insan is a programme inspired by our Prime Minister's wife,Her Excellency Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor, whereby it is one of the plans under the Program Permata Negara (Jewels of the Nation Programme) by Jabatan Perdana Menteri (Department of Prime Minister of Malaysia).
This programme is a collaboration between Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) and Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) in its initiative to guide these intellectually gifted students in empowering the worldly as well as religious knowledge to produce future learned scholars and philosophers based on the Al-Quran and As-Sunnah. This programme involves children of the age of eight.
To realize this dream, USIM have been entrusted to establish the Pusat Permata Insan (Jewels of the Nation Centre) which is now operational at Level 1 of the Faculty of Leadership and Management, USIM. The committee members of Program Permata Insan include sections of promotion, development of USIM-1 and curriculum development. They comprise of academic staffs as well as officers from various other faculties.
The main objective of the establishment of Pusat Permata Insan is to identify these gifted students from the earlier age, so that their potentials and abilities can be developed and further strengthened holistically to the optimal level. Other than that, Program Permata Insan also emphasizes on the aspects of preparation and development of their support system including their parents as part of the holistic approach to the students of PERMATA. Pusat Permata Insan also aims at building collaborations between USIM, governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations and universities from local and abroad in establishment, strengthening and monitoring the educational programmes of PERMATA students.
Amongst the activities that had been started since November 2009 by Pusat Permata Insan USIM was the Intellectual Series of Discussion. This programme invited specialists and scholars from various fields to contribute their ideas to further improve the Program Permata Insan USIM. Apart from that, the committee members of the Program Permata Insan also had arranged visits to strategic locations locally and internationally, in its great effort to gather information and establish networks of partnership to streghthen the implementation of the Program Permata Insan USIM. Some of the networking collaborations planned are with University King Abdulaziz, Jeddah and University Taibah, Madinah, Arab Saudi.
