SHAH ALAM, Dec 22 2010 (Bernama) -- Datin Shazarina Shamsuddin, wife of former Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman, died today at the Selayang Hospital from cancer of the liver and lungs.

Shazarina, 46, died at about 5 am and her remains were brought to the house here at 8 am, Zainal told reporters at his house.

She was buried at her village in Parit Mahang, Kuala Selangor, this evening.

Shazarina leaves four children, Nadhir Ashafiq, Nabil Ashmawi, Najlaa Aina and Nafiz Ashrani.

Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of the prime minister, said Shazarina's death was a huge loss to the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti).

She had been an active and hardworking member of Bakti in all its programmes, said Rosmah, who is Bakti president, after paying her last respects.

"Shazarina had never turned down any work given to her," she said, adding that Shararina had been a close friend.

Rosmah also conveyed to Zainal condolences from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and wife of Information Communication and Culture Minister Datin Seri Masnah Rais also paid their last respects.
