KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11 2010 (Bernama) -- Some 17,000 people of all races took part in Larian Serentak 1Malaysia held simultaneously nationwide.

The Prime Minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said the inaugural run was a good sign for the 1Malaysia Concept.

"The run is participated by people of all races and religious background. Some came from as far as Sabah and Sarawak," she said after starting the run at Dataran Merdeka Satuday morning.

Rosmah who is also National Athletes' Welfare Foundation (Yakeb) patron hopes that the run would be held annually with bigger participation from the people and corporations.

Yakeb executive chairman Datuk Mumtaz Jaffar said other than strengthening the 1Malaysia spirit, it was also to foster ties among former athletes.

She said Yakeb organised the run to recognise the services of former athletes who brought sporting glory to the country.
