KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 2010 (Bernama) -- For the first time, 174 Permata Seni children will take part in the Permata Seni Concert: Nurturing Young Talents, Enriching the Nation's Rhythm at Istana Budaya on Dec 14 and 15.

Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of the prime minister, who is the founder of the programme, said the performers aged between six and 15, who were selected based on their talents, prowess and personalities since January, would dazzle the audience during the 90-minute show.

The concert will be divided into three segments -- Permata Seni Dances combining the dances of five races, Permata Seni Choir featuring five songs, and Permata Seni Music featuring four songs in orchestral composition or classical solo, she told reporters at Istana Budaya here Monday.

She said the highlight would be the combination of the three segments, namely dances, singing and music, where a medley of Tan Sri P. Ramlee's songs would reverberate the hall.

The Dec 14 concert is open to the public with 1,300 free passes will be given out at Istana Budaya on Wednesday while the Dec 15 concert is for special guests.

She said the inaugural concert is the peak of continuous training and mentoring of the participants this year.

The participants of the programme, which was launched on Jan 11, were divided into three mentoring programmes -- Permata Seni Choir, Permata Seni Music and Permata Seni Dances.

They were put through the paces through workshops, music camps and concert tours in striving towards excellence.

"The gifted children in arts are like blooming flowers. So their talents should be nurtured through untiring commitment and in a systematic order for the flowers to bloom as quickly as possible," said Rosmah.

She said under the programme, steps would be taken to provide a conducive environment in order to take the participants to greater heights.

The concert will either be a yearly affair and a bi-annual event depending on the response of the audience, she added.
