POKOK SENA, Nov 8 2010 (Bernama) -- Bakti, the association of wives of ministers and deputy ministers, will donate RM20,000 and RM10,000 to the flood victims in Kedah and Perlis respectively, its president Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said.

"The money will be channelled through the Welfare Department," she told reporters after visiting a family in Telaga Mas, here, whose family members Nurul Nadia Mohd Shukor, 13, and Nurul Syafika Mohd Shukor, 9, were drowned recently.

Rosmah, the wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, also donated RM3,000 to the family and conveyed Najib's condolences to them.

The victims' mother Noraini Ilyas, 38, said the family was touched by Rosmah's visit.

"We truly appreciate her coming to our place."

In the incident on Wednesday, the two sisters were riding pillion on a motorcycle ridden by a friend when the machine crashed into an irrigation canal and they were swept away by the current.

Villagers managed to rescue their friend, Intan Malik, 14.
