Muslims Have Role To Play In Strengthening Spirit Of Ummah | 25/10/2010
Untitled document PUTRAJAYA, Oct 25 2010 (Bernama) -- Muslims have a role to play in developing knowledge on Islam and strengthening the spirit of ummah (community), said the prime minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

She said the ummah was not founded on race, nationality, locality, occupation, kinship or special interests but transcends national borders and political boundaries.

"The foundation of the ummah in Islam is the principle which designates submission to the will of Allah, obedience to his law and commitment to his cause," she said at the prize giving ceremony of the the Quran reading competition for Muslim converts at Seri Perdana, here Monday night.

Also present are Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah and organising committee chairman Datuk Raja Rezza Shah.

Rosmah and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak are joint patron of the event. Rosmah said the event was an ideal platform for converts to congregate and exchange views on Islam besides promoting a better understanding of the religion and Islamic values.

She urged corporations and organisations to intensify their support not only for this event but also other events to enhance appreciation of Islamic values and heritage.

Some 98 people participated in the Quran reading competition held for the fourth time.
