KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 2010 (Bernama) -- MEASAT Broadcast Network System or Astro won two awards for outstanding initiatives in corporate social responsibility (CSR) at Asian CSR Awards 2010 here Friday night.

Astro won in the Best Workplace Pratices category for its Change and Talent Management Programme and Support and Improvement of Education category for Kampus Astro.

Astro chief executive officer Datuk Rohana Rozhan received the awards from the Prime Minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

Rohana said the awards were result of efforts, commitment anmd passion showed by Astro employees toward social resposibility.

"With this recognition, we will give more commitment to CSR over the long term," she added.

Earlier, in her keynote address, Rosmah said CSR should not only be promoted and encouraged for business but positioned as a 'moral compass' in locating what businesses really need to do and behave.

She said with such moral compass, corporations would realise that it was their moral obligation to be responsible to society via efficient utilisation of resources that society entrusts to business.

"The responsible and sustainable business practices must come from within and only a moral compass can do it. This should include conducting business with intergrity, ethically, fairly and transparently," she said.

The Asian CSR Awards is Asia's premier awards programme to honour and recognise companies in Asia for projects and programmes in corporate social responsibility.

The awards are given in five categories including Concern for Health, Environmental Excellence and Poverty Alleviation.
