KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 2010 (Bernama) -- The prime minister's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, has called on non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and government agencies to adopt a welfare-for-all approach, where such assistance is being channeled to all regardless of race in line with the 1Malaysia concept.

She said cooperation between government agencies and the NGOs was vital and very necessary as the NGOs were the government's agents in providing assistance, security and prosperity to the people.

"The welfare-for-all approach will ensure that Malaysians from all walks of life will be able to enjoy a better quality of life as well as peace and harmony in this multi-racial country," she said.

Rosmah spoke at the presentation of aid to 400 poor people in conjunction with a Deepavali celebration organised by the Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MAICCI) at the Sri Subramaniyar Temple in Batu Caves, here on Saturday.

She also said that the close cooperation between the government agencies and the NGOs would enable issues and problems concerning the people to be tackled immediately and effectively.

She said she hoped that generous individuals and private companies would also adopt the welfare-for-all approach in a bid to create a poverty-free community.
