BRUSSELS, Oct 6 2010 (Bernama) -- The prime minister's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, on Tuesday visited a centre for teenage mothers in Kasterlee, about 100km from here.

She was greeted on arrival by the centre's head, Andre Gielis, and spent about two hours at the facility, known as the Centrum voor Integrale Gezinszorg (CIG) or Centre for Integrated Family Welfare.

She was briefed on its operations by an official of the centre, Willy Cockx, who said many of the teenagers there were from dysfunctional families.

"The teenagers either came voluntarily or were sent by the juvenile courts. Some were place here by their parents," he said.

Apart from attending the briefing, Rosmah also toured the facility which could accommodate eight teenagers and their babies at any one time.

She also met three of the teenagers at the centre, which was founded in 1962.

Rosmah told the Malaysian media that the visit provided new insights into how such a centre was run.

"It also gives new perceptions into how social phenomenon involving pregnant teenagers could be addressed," she said.

Rosmah is expected to share the insights gained here in the running of the newly-opened Sekolah Harapan (School of Hope) in Melaka, Malaysia, a school for unwed pregnant teenagers.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam had previously said that the state government was eagerly awaiting her inputs in the running of the school which was opened last month.

The visit was among programmes attended by Rosmah in Belgium.

She was here to accompany her husband, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who was attending the Eight Asia-Europe Meeting (Asem) Summit. The two-day summit ended yesterday.
