BERANANG, Sept 2 2010 (Bernama) -- Twenty houses of the deserving in Selangor will be repaired with the RM100,000 allocation received through Badan Amal dan Kasih Selangor (Kasih) for the purpose.

Kasih president Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said each house would be given RM5,000 with the extra cost to be voluntarily borne by the contractor involved, Nadi Cergas Sdn Bhd.

She said such aid was also given in Kedah, but the allocations and the programme were handled by Datin Seri Noraini Abdullah, wife of former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mahadzir Khalid, as the chairman of the Welfare Body of the Wives of Kedah Barisan Nasional Elected Representatives and Former Elected Representatives (Bidara).

"Kasih received a contribution of RM100,000 from 1Malaysia Development Berhad for repair works to the 20 houses.

"As an association, Kasih is not only involved in social activities for its members but also in community development in Selangor," she told a news conference at the house of Mahhizan Mohd Zin in Kampung Kuala Pajam, here Wednesday.

Mahhizan, 41, is one of the recipients of the aid to repair her dilapidated house.

The mother of eight, including two step-children, shed tears as she was so touched by the government's concern for the less fortunate.

"I am so thankful for this assistance," she said.

Mahhizan said the RM600 that she and her husband earned monthly was insufficient for the family and they also had to cope with the health problems of two of their children.

In a related development, Rosmah said Kasih with the cooperation of Bank Rakyat also on Wednesday handed over zakat (tithe) to 280 of the less fortunate and deserving from 56 state constituencies in Selangor, with each receiving RM100.

"We also gave Raya clothes to about 100 disabled persons in conjunction with this festive season," she added.
