PUTRAJAYA, Aug 19 2010 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor today received an invitation to deliver a speech at the International Conference on Women Education at the Asian University for Women in Bangladesh next January.

Rosmah received the invitation from the wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Cherie Blair, who made a courtesy call on her at the Prime Minister's official residence in Seri Perdana here Friday.

The Prime Minister's wife said she felt very honoured by the invitation and believed Malaysia can contribute immensely based on experience in encouraging education among Malaysian women.

"May be I will speak on something about education for girls and will make time to be at the conference," she told reporters during a joint press conference here today.

Cherie Blair who is also patron of the university and co-chairwoman of the conference said Rosmah was invited based on her wide knowledge and passion for the welfare of children and women, especially in education.

The Asian University for Women was set up in Bangladesh three years ago, educating students from all over the world, including from countries like Vietnam, Afghanistan, Bhutan and Palestine.

During the meeting, they also discussed issues involving widows and single mother and agreed that Malaysia should play a leading role in the campaign to persuade the United Nations to recognise June 23, as International Day for Widows.

Cherie Blair is on a three-week holiday in Malaysia and will be leaving home tomorrow morning.
