KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 2010 (Bernama) -- The Prime Minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has called upon the public as well as the private sector to make Hari Raya contributions to the country's armed forces personnel.

She said it would be a show of appreciation towards their sacrifices in ensuring peace and harmony in the country, even during festive seasons.

Rosmah, who is also Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) president, said without the armed forces, the country would be exposed to elements that could threaten national security.

"I hope the public will convey their thanks to armed forces personnel who are on duty during Hari Raya by giving any form of donation to make their Aidilfitri a joyous one," she said during a contribution presentation ceremony from Bakti to armed forces personnel at Wisma Bakti, on Friday.

She said a total of 39,000 parcels will be distributed this Hari Raya consisting of serunding ayam (chicken floss), beef rendang, nasi impit (compressed rice) and peanut sauce.

Of that number, 15,000 were allocated to the Malaysian Armed Forces, 20,000 for the Royal Malaysia Police and 4,000 for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.

She added that it was hoped the parcels would help lessen the sadness of those on duty and are forced to be away from their families during the upcoming festive season.
