KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 2010 (Bernama) -- "Serunding Ayam" (Chicken Floss) is a special new item in the annual goodies pack to be sent by the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) to armed forces personnel serving away from home during Aidilfitri next month.

Bakti president Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, who is the wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, said today the serunding ayam was specially ordered from AgroMas, a small and medium enterprise (SME).

"In this way, Bakti indirectly helps an SME such as AgroMas to grow its business," she said to reporters after leading 85 members of Bakti in packing the goodies at the Bangunan Bakti Siti Hasmah, here.

A total of 39,000 packs of food containing "serunding ayam", beef "rendang", "kuah kacang" (peanut sauce) and "nasi impit" (compressed rice) were prepared for the armed forces personnel who will spend Aidilfitri away from home because of duty.

Some 15,000 of the packs will be sent to armed forces personnel serving away from their stations in the country and abroad, including under the United Nations' auspices in Lebanon, Nepal, western Sahara, Congo, Sudan, Timor-Leste and Liberia.

About 20,000 packs will be sent to members of the Royal Malaysia Police Force and 4,000 packets to Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) personnel.

Rosmah said the number of packs this year had to be increased by 6,700 because more armed forces personnel would be on duty away from home during the coming Aidilfitri, likely to fall on Sept 10 and 11.

Also present at the event were Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, wife of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad; Puan Sri Norainee Abdul Rahman, wife of Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin; Datin Seri Masnah Rais, wife of Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim and Datin Seri Lee Sun Loo, wife of Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

The handing over of the goodies packs to the respective armed forces units will take place tomorrow at the same premises.
