KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 2010 (Bernama) -- The Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) has donated RM50,000 to ailing Malay literary figure Adibah Amin for treatment and medication.

The wheelchair-bound 74-year-old has not been in good health, following a stroke, three years ago.

The prime minister's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, who is also Bakti president, said the donation was meant for Adibah's treatment and medication.

"We decided to give her a donation, instead of award, because right now, Adibah is really in need of financial aid for her treatment," she told reporters after presenting the donation to Adibah at Bangunan Siti Hasmah here Tuesday.

Rosmah said the decision was also made due to Adibah's contribution to literature and writing, especially in Malay and English.

Meanwhile, Adibah, who was accompanied by her sister, Fadzilah, said she was grateful for the donation.

Apart from being a literary figure, Adibah has acted in three Malay films, including 'Adik Manja' (1980), for which she won the best supporting actress award in the first Malaysian Film Festival.

She has also received several awards, including the Southeast Asian Writers Award in 1983.
