KOTA KINABALU, July 14 2010 (Bernama) -- The close relations between the Sabah Barisan Nasional Elected Representatives' Wives Charitable Organisation (BAKISA) and other welfare bodies in the country must be further strengthened in the interest of national solidarity, said the prime minister's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

She said this was because the wives of all the leaders were always seen and perceived to be role models for all women in the country.

"All of us have our respective roles which are very important in championing the cause and direction of the women and our future generation and not merely as decoration for our husbands when they are on official functions," she said.

Rosmah said this in her speech at the dinner in conjunction with the annual programme of BAKISA, here tonight.

As such, she wanted them to continue to pool their resources so that solidarity would continue to be the thrust in achieving their noble objectives as an organisation that was constructive, contemporary, visionary and respected.

"This close relationship is nothing new because it had existed since the Barisan Nasional helmed the administration in Sabah," she said.

Rosmah said Sabah was also noted for organising cultural festivals of international standards especially the 'Kaamatan Festival' to introduce the uniqueness of its various ethnic groups who lived in harmony which had impressed the international community

She said: "It's no wonder that Sabah is among the best examples of the IMalaysia Concept mooted by our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, because of its strong solidarity despite its diverse culture."
