KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 2010 (Bernama) -- The prime minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor today presented RM75,000 to help three children undergo heart operations, the first group of recipients for the Bakti welfare fund.

The recipients are Muhammad Azim Mohd Rodzi, four months, and Ng Shao Ern, 14 months, who have undergone operations at the Penang Gleneagles Medical Centre in March, and Teoh Yan Ru, aged two years and eight months, who will undergo operation upon reaching the age of three.

Rosmah said the fund was for the treatment chronic ailment for children from the low-income group.

"We came to know of the plights of these three children through newspaper reports," he told reporters after receiving parents of the three children at her residence on Thursday.

Rosmah, who is Bakti president, said the association was currently looking into several more applications to ensure they were eligible for the fund.

The fund was part of the money given to Rosmah by Prince Saud Al-Saud of Kuwait, totalling US$2 million, for returning a personal box belonged to the prince, which she stumbled upon onboard the Kuwait royal family's yacht during a vacation in south of France in November last year.

Rosmah, however, distributed the fund to 13 welfare associations for their activities and to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia to managed the Permata Pintar programme.

Muhamad Azim's mother Suhana Samat, 28, thanked Bakti for footing the cost of her son's treatment.

"My son is now healthier and is becoming more active," he said.
