Untitled document SIBU, May 2 2010 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak took time off his busy schedule here on Sunday to visit the family of the late Deputy Transport Minister and Sibu MP Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew.

Najib who was accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr George Chan and Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin arrived at the Lau residence in Jalan Bruang at about 12.15pm.

They were welcomed by the late Lau's wife Datin Janet Lau Ung Hie, their son Alvin Lau Lee Jen, 39, daughter Tammy Lau Lee Teng, 36, and several close relatives.

Lau who was Sibu MP for five terms, died from liver cancer on April 19.

The atmosphere was filled with sadness for a while when Janet who is still grieving over her husband's death, shed tears. The VIP visitors spent about half an hour at the Lau residence.

Tammy when interviewed by reporters said the prime minister regarded her late father as a highly committed leader in carrying out his tasks.

"The prime minister said daddy was a dedicated leader even when he was unwell. When on a working visit to Sibu during the last Chinese New Year celebration, he realised that daddy had lost weight and looked ill."

Tammy said the prime minister also told her to take good care of her mother.
