Bakti Members Need International Exposure - Rosmah | 25/03/2010
Untitled document KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 2010 (Bernama) -- President of the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti), Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor wants members of Bakti to be equipped with the latest information, developments and international exposure, to remain competitive.

"With rapid globalization, the world is continuously changing and the role of women is becoming increasingly challenging," said the Prime Minister's wife in her speech during Bakti's 33rd general assembly here on Thursday.

Rosmah said Bakti members must exposed to academic excellence and given opportunities to be involved in welfare as well as community programmes and activities carried out by other countries.

"To enable members to acquire such experience, I have invited Bakti members to follow me whenever I go overseas to give speeches and attend seminars or become part of the delegation whenever Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak goes for officials visits outside the country," she said.

Rosmah added that a number of members were in the delegation during her visit to Dubai last October where she delivered a keynote address at a forum called "Women in Leadership".

During the visit, I also had an opportunity to visit Princess Haya Bint Hussein, the wife of the Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and visit a school for children with special needs, she said.

Apart from the Dubai and UAE visits, Bakti members had also accompanied her when she delivered a keynote address at the "Asean Women Economic Forum" conference in Singapore and the visit to India, said Rosmah who is also chairman of Permata Negara, an initiative for early childhood care and education.

"So much can be learnt by interacting with princesses from royal families and wives of leaders in their respective countries," she said.

Rosmah said next month she would be accompanying Najib to Washington and New York, and had invited Bakti members to join the delegation.

The Bakti president said apart from speaking at the "First Ladies Speak" forum organised by the United Nations' Women International Forum in New York, Music Therapy Centre for Disabled, visit the "High Risk Youth Centre" US President's wife Michelle Obama's project and join the "Faces of Malaysia Festival" in Washington.

She also launched Bakti's corporate video and Coffee Table Book which portrays the history of Bakti's activities for three decades.
