Permata Sending Five Students To Summer Camp In United States | 05/03/2010
Untitled document SEREMBAN, March 5 2010 (Bernama) -- Five bright students from the Permata programme will be sent to Summer Camp 2010 at Johns Hopkins University's Center for Talented Youth in United States from June 27-July 16.

Permata patron Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said they are Rabiatul Adawiyah Ishak, 13 ( Sarawak), Ahmad Asyraf Burhani, 15 (Pahang), Muhammad Akmal Hasbullah, 16 (Kelantan), S. Kalithashinee, 14, and Philip Chin Zhen Yew, 16 (Penang).

"The five picked were among students who attended the summer camp at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) last year," she said after launching the screening test of Permata Pintar UKM 1 at Kolej Tunku Kurshiah here today.

Some 300 to 400 bright students from over 100 countries worldwide attend the summer camp at Johns Hopkins University annually.

"Other than mixing with other bright students, they will also be exposed to the learning modules at the university. They can share the experience with other brights students in Malaysia."

Some 339,147 students aged 9-15 years underwent screening test for Permata Pintar UKM 1 last year. Of the number, 4,686 were picked for Permata Pintar UKM 2 screening test.

Rosmah said the 405 students chosen for the summer camp at UKM were based on merit. They comprised various races, cultures and socio economic background.

Permata expects to pick about 1,000 students for the UKM summer camp at year end. The first screening test was from March 1-May 31.

"We will invite 10 bright students from other countries for the UKM summer camp. Students aged 9 to 15 years are urged to seize this opportunity," she said.
