The prime minister's wife said it was necessary to form a cooperation network to tackle the problem of abandoned babies which had been rampant nationwide.

When asked about the possibility of launching an awareness campaign on the issue, Rosmah, who is also the president of the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers, said she would convene a meeting with the relevant parties before organising any campaign.

She also expressed distress over the cases of abandoned babies of late, especially after a newborn baby boy was found burnt to death in a rubbish bin in Kuala Krai, Kelantan Saturday.

"I'm so distressed over the incident because it was such a cruel thing to do and I do hope the relevant parties will take appropriate action to ensure that such an incident will not recur," she said.
