KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 2012 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has called on fellow Muslims in the country to appreciate the Israk and Mikraj, for moral strength, particularly through fervent prayers and worship.
He said moral decadence leading to depravity and vice among Muslims was a result of nonchalance in prayers.
"Rasulullah SAW always requests that we pray earnestly and rein in our morals. An earnest prayer can be our shield against social adversities that is undermining us Sunday.
"May our appreciation of Rasulullah's awesome traverse from Masjidil Haram in Mecca to Masjidil Aqsa in Palestine (Israk) and his ascend heavenwards accompanied by the angel Gabriel to meet with Allah (Mikraj) transform our tomorrow into a better day than today, GOD willing," he said in his message in conjunction with the epic religious commemoration in his blog, www.1malaysia.com.my here today.
Najib said although the event happened more than 1,400 years ago, it remained very much relevant and significant to Muslims.
He said the institution of the mosque as the core in the Israk and Mikraj is a reminder of Muslims' close relationship with Masjidil Aqsa and Jerusalem.
"As how the prophets had been united at Masjidil Aqsa to affirm the spiritual leadership of Rasulullah SAW, so must we unite to defend and uphold Islam," he stressed.
He said the world could see how Malaysia continues to stand firm in its fight against tyranny and violence by Israel's Zionist regime in Palestine.
To this end, he urged the Malaysian society at every strata to support the government and participate in building a peaceful and safe nation.
"Looking at what is happening in other countries we should be thankful for the blessings of social, political and economic stability bestowed by Allah SWT upon us.
"All these require everyone's support and initiative. Thank GOD, recently we were accorded recognition as the safest country in Southeast Asia in the Global security Index," he said.
