KUALA LIPIS, June 1 2012 (Bernama) -- Almost all the rural infrastructure projects under the National Key Results Area (NKRA) of the Rural and Regional Development Ministry have been completed, Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said here.
He said that up to April 30, the ministry had constructed 2,263 kilometres of rural roads, more than the targeted 1,841 kilometres.
Also up to April 30, up to 142,498 rural houses had been provided with water supply and 59,824 had been supplied with electricity compared to the targeted 57,714 houses, he told reporters in Kampung Tanjung Gahai, Lipis, yesterday.
Shafie said that under the housing aid, the ministry had built and renovated 33,587 units of houses compared to the targeted 27,559.
"The government, through the ministry, will continue to provide basic infrastructure to the rural people, and has allocated RM16 billion for the purpose this year," he said.
At an event in RAUB, Shafie advised the people, particularly youngsters, not to experiment with the general election. He said they should exercise their responsibility with wisdom to ensure a good future for themselves.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) government had a proven track record of having brought development for the people, he said at the Raub Challenge programme organised by GiatMara in Kampung Pamah Kulat Dong.
