ALOR SETAR, Sept 20 2012 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has expressed his condolences to the family of an administrative and diplomatic officer who drowned during an endurance training programme in Pahang last Sunday.
Najib conveyed his condolences through Kedah Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah to the family of Aldy Hasni Abu Hassan, 35, who died during training at the Force 136 Territorial Army Camp in Pekan.
Ahmad Bashah today visited the family home in Lorong Fajar, Jalan Sultanah, here to convey the condolences to Aldy Hasni's widow, Farah Fudhlana Zainuddin, 34, and her family.
He said the prime minister also gave the assurance that the widow or family could seek whatever assistance they required from Kedah Umno.
Ahmad Bashah represented the prime minister in handing over a contribution from the federal government to Farah Fudhlana.
Aldy Hasni's father, Abu Hassan Ahmad, 67, said he was most thankful to the prime minister and others who had shown concern.
Abu Hassan, who is a former secretary of the Kedah Football Association (KFA), said he hoped to be able to meet the prime minister in person to express the family's sadness over the death of Aldy Hasni.
In the incident on Sunday, Aldy Hasni and 243 other officers were crossing a canal near Sungai Miang in Pekan at about 2.30 pm when he fell into the water.
The trainer pulled him out of the canal and applied CPR before rushing him to Pekan Hospital, but he died at about 3 pm.
